High school students in scrubs- UCH

The first dedicated intensive school internship program in Queensland.

In 2012, The Wesley Hospital launched a comprehensive school internship program to inspire school students considering a career in the healthcare sector.

The program is the first dedicated intensive school internship program to be held in Queensland.

The aim of the program is to provide students from the community with a practical and theoretical insight into working and learning within a hospital setting.

It is a valuable educational experience and an excellent launching pad for the healthcare workforce of the future.

Students are involved in a range of activities including:

  • Presentations and discussions with healthcare leaders
  • Tours of departments including theatre, wards and kitchen areas
  • Educational sessions, including learning new skills in simulation labs
  • Practical work placements with practitioners
  • Daily debriefing sessions

We hope to inspire school interns to pursue a career in the healthcare sector and that they return to UnitingCare Health hospitals for their undergraduate placements and eventually to work with us.
