Our third Reconciliation Action Plan has launched!

Our third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was launched at Tjapukai Cultural Centre in Cairns on Friday 27 October, 2017 at a celebration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, residents and employees from our North Queensland services and members of our senior and executive leadership team.

Reconciliation is a journey for everyone and is alive through our commitment and the passion of our people to make a difference. Our new plan continues to guide us in building respect, understanding and cultural connectedness for our employees and the people who use our services.

So far our Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) have helped us:

  • make our services culturally safe and accessible for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • build enduring partnerships with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and at a local community level with Elders and community members
  • support the work we do through political advocacy, health-based advocacy and the provision of unique and holistic care.

Our third RAP further challenges us to:

  • increase our percentage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees so that our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients receive culturally appropriate care
  • give a voice to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait employees and clients through strong leadership at all levels of our organisation
  • invite our employees to take part in cultural appreciation training and/or workshops
  • create a culture that recognises and respects the value and knowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people bring to UnitingCare Queensland’s work.
